About 50 Chinese companies, including Huawei, ZTE and Xiaomi, are attending the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2022, which opened in the Spanish city on Monday.
According to market research firm Counterpoint Research, seven of the ten most popular smartphone brands in Europe are Chinese, and Chinese manufacturers at MWC seem determined to push that number even higher.
In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic caused the cancellation of the MWC and last year’s edition had to be reduced. This year, however, the congress is back in full force and attendees can once again reconnect face-to-face.
Thomas Herron, Xiaomi Technology’s communications manager for Western Europe, told Xinhua that his company is “great to be able to come back and meet people at MWC,” adding that Xiaomi was showcasing several products, such as its smartphone Recently launched Redmi Note 11.
“At Xiaomi, we have a wide range of products, from cyber dogs to our connected ecosystem of AIT products, and our other brand, POCO, is launching two new products here today,” he said.
On Sunday, Huawei launched two personal computers in its MateBook series: the Matebook E with a 12.6-inch OLED screen and the X Pro 2022 with a 14-inch screen.
Speaking at the launch event, Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group, said he was optimistic about the future, noting that his company had withstood the “harsh winter” and was now “looking forward to enjoy the warmth of spring.”
Huawei’s former subsidiary, Honor, which has become an independent brand, is presenting its Magic 4 series at MWC.
Lenovo, OPPO, China Telecom and ZTE are also all present in Barcelona.
“We have seen that digital transformation is well underway after two years affected by the pandemic,” commented David An Wei, Asia Group Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for ZTE.
