China sanctions Taiwan ambassador to US after Tsai-McCarthy meeting

Beijing: Chinese state media reported on Friday (April 7) that China has announced new sanctions once morest Taiwan’s ambassador to the US, Hsiao Bi-Khim, following Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen’s visit to the US.

Hsiao and their family members are banned from entering China, Hong Kong and Macau, according to media reports.

This comes following Taiwan’s president met with US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy during a visit to the US state of California this week. Beijing strongly condemned the meeting.

The sanctions, announced by China’s Taiwan Affairs Office, prohibit investors and Hsiao-related entities from cooperating with mainland organizations and individuals, according to media reports.

Beijing announced sanctions once morest Hsiao and seven Taiwanese officials in August following former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited the island.
