BEIJING (Archyde.com) – The wreckage of China’s Long March 5B rocket launched on Saturday is expected to re-enter Earth’s atmosphere this weekend, sources said on Thursday. Experts say the possibility of a crash in a densely populated area cannot be ruled out, although the chances of this happening are extremely low. The wreckage is out of control, and it is currently difficult to predict the exact drop point.

Experts in the United States have pointed out that there is a risk that many remnants of the wreckage that remain following re-entry into the Earth’s atmosphere will rain down on an area regarding 2,000 kilometers long and 70 kilometers wide. The US non-profit organization “Aerospace Corporation” predicted that the estimated time of the fall would be around 16 hours before or following 9:30 a.m. on March 31 Japan time.

One example of Chinese rocket wreckage falling to the ground was when fragments from the Long March 5B launched in May 2020 landed in Côte d’Ivoire in western Africa, damaging buildings.
