China reported that they will continue to “modernize” their nuclear arsenal

The government of the People’s Republic of China said on Tuesday that they continue to “modernize” their nuclear arsenal. The director general of the arms control department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Fu Cong, specified that the program seeks to meet “reliability and security issues.”

On the occasion, the Asian giant asked the United States and the Russian Federation to reduce their nuclear warehouses. This Monday the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (USA, China, Russia, United Kingdom and France) promised to “prevent the proliferation” of these weapons.

The global powers expressed in a statement that they also plan in the future the complete dismantling of their arsenals. This day China defended its atomic policy and invited Moscow and Washington to take the first steps to begin to comply with the words.

Fu Cong stated that “The US and Russia still have 90% of nuclear warheads on Earth”. For the same reason, the Chinese Foreign Ministry official said that “they have to reduce their nuclear arsenal in an irreversible and legally binding way.” The official also dismissed accusations that China is expanding its nuclear arsenal.

German wave indicates that Cong described as “false” the White House complaint that Beijing seeks to have 700 nuclear warheads in 2027 and possibly 1,000 in 2030. The official stressed that China “Maintains nuclear capacity at the minimum level required to guarantee national security”.
