The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the omission of the history of Goguryeo and Balhae in the chronological table introducing the ancient history of Korea at the Korea, China and Japan Antiquities Exhibition held in Beijing, China was an “academic problem”.

At a regular briefing today (13th), Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Maoning said, “The Goguryeo issue is an academic issue.” I did.

The National Museum of China in Beijing has been conducting the ‘Korea-China-Japan Ancient Bronze Exhibition’ since last July to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Korea and China and the 50th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan.

The JoongAng Ilbo reported that Gojoseon, Silla, Baekje, Gaya, Goryeo, and Joseon were marked in the Korean history chronology during the exhibition, but Goguryeo and Balhae were omitted.

When it was also revealed that the National Museum of China had stated that the chronology had been provided by the National Museum of Korea, the National Museum of Korea said, “It has requested an apology along with corrections to China’s arbitrary editing.”

From 2002 to 2007, China attempted to incorporate the ancient northern history of Korea such as Goguryeo and Balhae into Chinese history through the Northeast Project, a national academic project.
