China on Monday congratulated Venezuela for a “successful” election and the current president, Nicolás Maduro, for his re-election, after the National Electoral Council (CNE) announced his victory in the elections held on Sunday.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian added at a press conference that China and Venezuela are “good friends and partners who support each other.”
Lin said that his country “attaches great importance to the development of relations between China and Venezuela” and that Beijing is “willing to work” with Caracas to “enrich the content” of their strategic partnership.

He expressed hope that the development of ties between the two countries, which raised the level of their bilateral relationship to a “strategic partnership against all odds” in 2023 during a visit by Maduro to the Asian giant, “will benefit both peoples.”
In the months leading up to the elections, China had reaffirmed its support for Venezuela’s “sovereignty and independence” and its desire for the South American country’s government to conduct the electoral process in accordance with “its national constitution and laws” and “without external interference.”
According to the first report from the CNE, Maduro was re-elected for a third consecutive term this Sunday, with 51.2% of the votes (5,150,092 votes), while González Urrutia obtained 4,445,978 votes, which represents 44.2% of the votes.
