Indonesian mixed doubles pair Dejan Ferdinansyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2024 China Open. In the last 16 match which took place at the Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium, Changzhou, Thursday (19/9), Dejan/Gloria defeated Malaysian representatives, Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei, with 21-15, 13-21, 21-9.
In the match, Dejan/Gloria were not only accompanied by their coach Vita Marissa but also veteran men’s doubles player Hendra Setiawan. Dejan/Gloria admitted to being motivated by the support.
Dejan/Gloria could start well in the first game but in the second game they were under pressure. In the third game the points were close but after that Dejan/Gloria won easily.
“Earlier, in addition to our coach, Ci Vita (Marissa), we were also accompanied by Koh Hendra (Setiawan). It certainly added strength and motivation. Both of them are great Indonesian badminton legends. So we have no reason to be afraid,” said Dejan.
Gloria said that the opponent’s playing style was not far from the Indonesian pairs so she already knew the anticipation. Regarding being accompanied by Hendra Setiawan, Gloria admitted to being surprised.
“Just found out during the warm-up that Koh Hendra will accompany us too. I’m really happy,” said Gloria. (Z-2)
