China offers mediation for Palestinian-Israeli peace talks

Chinese Foreign Minister Chen Gang has told his Israeli and Palestinian counterparts that China is ready to facilitate peace talks between the two sides.

Foreign news agency AFP said in a report with reference to China’s official broadcasting agency Xinhua that Chinese Foreign Minister Chen Gang called the top diplomats of Israel and Palestine separately to reveal China’s role as a mediator in the region. Next is the fresh move.

Chen Gong called Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen to encourage the resumption of peace talks, saying that ‘China is ready to provide support in this matter’.

Chinese Foreign Minister told Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki that Beijing supports the immediate resumption of talks.

In both phone calls, Chen Gong stressed China’s position on peace talks based on the implementation of the ‘two-state solution’, Xinhua reported.

It should be noted that China played a key role in the restoration of relations in March between the worst rivals of the region, Iran and Saudi Arabia, by playing a mediating role in the diplomatic field.

A joint statement issued by Saudi Arabia, Iran and China in the Chinese capital Beijing said that Tehran and Riyadh have agreed to restore diplomatic relations, their embassies and missions before two months.

The report stated that the two countries have agreed to implement the Security Cooperation Agreement signed on April 17, 2001, emphasizing respect for sovereignty and non-interference in each other’s internal affairs.

On the other hand, America has been playing the role of such mediation in the region including Palestine and Israel for decades.

Negotiations between Israel and Palestine have been stalled since 2014.
