Beijing, China (ots) – Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, is a well-known heroic figure in Chinese legends. This brave and clever character from stories like Born from a stone, chaos in the sky and The Palm Frond Fan, is well known all over the world. In order to make the character of Sun Wukong more accessible to Arab youth, China Matters has produced an animated short called “Be the Sun Wukong in Your World” which tells the story of courage and challenges.
This animated short film is regarding a Jordanian boy named Mudd who was shy and insecure. He happens to be given a Sun Wukong doll and a picture book regarding the Monkey King’s adventures. Subsequently, Sun Wukong becomes his friend, giving him courage and confidence. As Mudd grows up, he tells Sun Wukong’s story to other people and passes on the belief that Sun Wukong gave him.
“The miracle does not come from divine power, but from constant effort,” are the words at the end of the animated short film. “Be the Sun Wukong in your world, be the hero defined by yourself.” The figure of Sun Wukong shines in new splendor in the Middle East.
The animation was co-produced by State Investment Development Corporation and China Matters. Sun Wukong’s stories give people from the Middle East and other regions of the world better access to Chinese traditional history and culture.
