China hits back at the US with harsh words

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi addressed the issue of the recent crisis of alleged spy balloons over US territory at the Security Conference in Munich, Germany.

“There are a lot of balloons in the sky. Are they going to shoot down each and every one of them?” the Chinese minister wondered before urging Washington to “Stop making a fool of yourself just to distract attention from your own problems.”

He also referred to the Chinese government’s historical line on the status of Taiwan, which “is part of Chinese territory, has never been a country, and never will be.”

China to mediate for peace in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine

“Trust between the great world powers is faltering,” he said during his appearance at the Conference, the first for a Chinese diplomat of his caliber to make a forum since the outbreak of the pandemic.

“The principles of the United Nations charter are something that we must defend,” he declared during his speech, in which he once once more stressed that the sanctions policy is not a solution by becoming an obstacle to dialogue as the main tool in conflict resolution.

“After all, peace must be given a chance,” said the senior Chinese diplomat.

The United States did not remain silent either

Secretary of State Antony Blinken has urged China to avoid incidents like the one that led the United States to shoot down a Chinese balloon and warned it of the “consequences” of giving aid to Russia in the Ukraine war.

Blinken made those warnings at the same meeting in Munich. Relations between the two powers deteriorated sharply following the US military shot down a Chinese balloon overflying its airspace on February 4.

“The secretary made it clear that the United States will not tolerate any violation of its sovereignty”added Blinken, who was “very direct and frank”, he continued.
