China Economic Net: Increased Capacity and Encrypted Routes to Boost Summer Flight Season in Xinjiang with Average Daily Volume Surpassing 1,260

The 24 airports managed by the Xinjiang Airport Group plan to increase their average daily flight volume to 1,264. By 2023, Xinjiang aims to expand its route network, increase capacity, and widen its range of routes. Urumqi Diwopu International Airport has an average daily scheduled flight volume of 578, and there are 11 international navigation waypoints between Urumqi and 121 routes from Urumqi to destinations outside of Xinjiang. Moreover, there are over 70 navigation waypoints outside Xinjiang, with direct flights available from Urumqi to major cities like Beijing, Chengdu, Zhengzhou, Hangzhou, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Chongqing.

This year, 16 regional airports in Xinjiang have opened direct flights to 40 cities outside of Xinjiang that do not pass through Urumqi. More than 10 new routes have been added to the mutual flight routes in Xinjiang, connecting cities like Yining, Kashgar, Korla, Altay, and Tacheng. Additionally, various airports like Turpan, Aksu, Yutian, and Hami have added new routes during the summer flight season.

China Southern Airlines has planned to operate 107 routes in Xinjiang with 77 navigation points. The airline intends to open 5 new regular routes, including Urumqi-Lanzhou-Kunming, Yining-Urumqi-Xi’an, and Kashgar-Chengdu Tianfu, as well as to resume 15 domestic routes like Urumqi-Shenzhen, Kashgar-Beijing Daxing, and Wuhan-Bole. These measures aim to aid the recovery of the aviation market.

To enrich travel options for passengers, China Southern Airlines has increased the frequency of major tourist routes, such as the Urumqi-Kashgar, Hotan, Yining, and Aksu routes, and will implement over 30 international flights every week. Moreover, Xinjiang Airport Group plans to promote the deep integration of aviation and tourism, implementing the “Tourism Xinjiang” strategy, and cooperates with airlines to jointly build a multi-level radiation route network in Xinjiang, developing multi-style airline transportation products.

Internationally, the new season of China Southern Airlines starts in Urumqi.
