China has not changed its stance on developing a healthy, stable and constructive relationship with the United States, but the current ties remain frosty, the State Councilor and Foreign Minister said last Saturday. , Qin Gang, during a meeting in Beijing with a delegation from the United States representing friendly organizations and the American business community.
Expressing warm greetings to the delegation, Qin Gang said American companies are welcome to increase their investment in China, which will continue to provide a better business environment for companies from the United States and other countries.
Qin Gang, who is China’s former ambassador to Washington, told guests that with the unanimous election of Xi Jinping as China’s president at the first session of the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC) at the start of this month, China would maintain the stability and constancy of its major policies and guidelines.
“By continuing its high-level opening up, China will continue to open up to the world, and the Chinese economy and society are expected to experience a strong recovery,” he said, adding that it was “regrettable that the Sino-US relations remain frosty this spring despite the opportunities this presents for the US business community.
Qin Gang said the two countries should respect each other, coexist peacefully and cooperate to achieve win-win results, noting that healthy bilateral relations require efforts from both sides.
The minister urged the United States to reject its “zero-sum mentality”, stop containing and suppressing China through unjust means, work with China to overcome the current difficulties and restore ties on the way to sound and stable development.
While Washington continues to use competition as a pretext to denigrate China and restrict its right to development, Sino-US relations remain strained. Last Thursday, the United States added 14 Chinese companies to its “red flag list”, requiring US exporters to be more vigilant before shipping goods to them.
According to a statement posted on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, members of the visiting US delegation said they are fully aware of the strength and vitality of China’s socio-economic development, as well as the expectations of the Chinese people with regard to the development of bilateral ties.
“The United States business community supports the healthy development of China-U.S. relations and the maintenance of the stability of bilateral relations,” they said, pledging to prevent the two countries from falling into a vicious circle of isolation or conflict.
They also stressed that they welcome more face-to-face engagements between the United States and China, and look forward to an increase in the number of flights between the two countries, so as to promote bilateral exchanges between various sectors and deepening cooperation in economy, trade and investment.
Cooperation between China and the United States has brought tremendous benefits to their respective peoples since the establishment of diplomatic relations. According to the latest data officially released in the United States, trade in goods reached a record level of 690.6 billion dollars (641.4 billion euros) in 2022.
