China boosts renewable power generation capacity

China’s installed renewable power generation capacity has grown rapidly in the first eight months of this year as the country strives to promote its green development, according to a report released on Saturday.

Between last January and August, installed wind power generation capacity increased 16.6% year-on-year to around 340 million kilowatts, while solar power generation capacity stood at 350 million. kilowatts, up 27.2 percent, said the report compiled by China’s National Energy Administration.

By the end of August, the country’s total installed power generation capacity had reached regarding 2.47 billion kilowatts, up 8 percent year on year, the data showed. China has announced that it will cap its carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. The country leads the world in terms of installed capacity in wind, photovoltaic, hydropower and biomass energy as it pursues its green development path.
