China and Russia want to strengthen strategic consultation and cooperation

China is willing to strengthen strategic communications with Russia and continuously expand the strategic content of bilateral relations, said Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the CPC Central Committee, at a meeting with Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergei Shoigu in St. Petersburg on Tuesday.

Wang said the stable and healthy development of China-Russia relations in the face of unprecedented changes in a century is largely due to the leadership of the heads of state of both countries.

This year, China and Russia are celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Both sides have maintained contacts at all levels and implemented the important consensus of the two heads of state. In addition, both countries have further consolidated the political and social foundations of lasting good neighborliness and friendship. Comprehensive strategic cooperation and mutually beneficial win-win cooperation have also been further strengthened.

Shoigu said the high-level exchanges and fruitful cooperation in various fields underlined the high level of strategic cooperation between Russia and China.

Shoigu thanked China for supporting Russia in assuming the rotating BRICS chairmanship and expressed Russia’s readiness to further strengthen strategic communications with China, closely coordinate cooperation and ensure the success of the BRICS summit next month in Kazan.
