China accelerates green transformation of power sector over past decade: report

China has stepped up efforts to promote the green and low-carbon development of the country’s energy sector over the past decade, an official report showed on Saturday.

In 2021, the installed capacity of non-fossil power generation in China stood at 1.12 billion kilowatts, accounting for 47 percent of the country’s installed capacity, according to the report released by the State Bureau of Statistics. .

Installed capacities of hydroelectric, wind and solar power generation reached 300 million kilowatts last year, ranking them first in the world for another year, the report said.

Last year, energy consumption per unit of gross domestic product decreased by 26.4% compared to 2012, representing savings equivalent to 1.4 billion tons of standard coal, according to the report. .

The share of clean energy consumption has also grown steadily. In 2021, coal accounted for 56% of the country’s total energy consumption, compared to 68.5% in 2012. On the other hand, the share of natural gas increased from 4.8%, to 8.9% during of this period, he added.
