Rio Negro Police arrested Jones Huala at dawn on January 30, at a home in the Nueva Esperanza neighborhood of El Bolsón. The Mapuche leader, who claims the existence of the Mapuche Ancestral Resistance (RAM), He had been a fugitive from Chilean justice since the beginning of February of last year.

Sentence
That court sentenced 6 years in effective prison for the burning of an inhabited house and 3 years and one day, also effective, for illegal possession of weapons, crimes committed in January 2013 in a field in Río Bueno, Chile.
The trial court computed in his favor the 1,178 days of preventive detention that he served in Argentina and Chile. PTherefore, in this way, he must remain imprisoned in the Temuco jail for 5 years and seven months. On January 21 of last year, the Temuco Court of Appeals granted him probation. The Supreme Court of Chile revoked it in mid-February 2022.

From the federal prosecutor’s office they explained that Jones Huala might not serve the sentence imposed by the Chilean justice system in Argentina. “It might not be done because for that to happen they have to have a remainder to serve a minimum of 2 years in prison,” they commented.
The sources that were in contact with Jones Huala explained that he requested his transfer to the Esquel federal prison, which was arranged earlier this month, to be closer to his family. And they clarified that he has no firm conviction in Argentina.
