Chile’s Jewish Community Fights Against Anti-Semitism: Roger Waters Concert Controversy

(CNN Spanish) –– The Jewish Community of Chile (CJCh) organization reported this Friday that it filed a motion for reconsideration and appeal for subsidy, after the Court of Appeals of Santiago rejected its request for protection to prohibit the musician Roger Waters from “using elements or issuing comments that incite hatred and anti-Semitism” during the concerts that the leader of the band Pink Floyd will give on November 25 and 26 at the Monumental Stadium in the Chilean capital. They also ask that the production company DG Medios, responsible for the event, do what is necessary in the same regard.

“Roger Waters is recognized for apologizing for Nazism and spreading hate speech,” the CJCh stressed this Friday in a message on the social network X, formerly Twitter.

Waters has defended himself against this type of accusation, arguing that the elements of his shows that have been questioned are a “parody” and a symbol “of opposition to fascism, injustice and fanaticism in all their forms.” CNN asked Waters’ team for a comment regarding these actions of the Jewish Community in Chile, and is awaiting their response.

The protection appeal presented by lawyer Ariela Agosin was rejected by the court because “in the presentation made in these records no facts have been mentioned that could constitute a violation of the constitutional guarantees indicated in article 20 of the Political Constitution of the Republic “.

CNN is also trying to contact the production company DG Medios to find out its position regarding the CJCh request.
