The helmsmen of Chile Vamos rejected this followingnoon the declarations of pro-government officials regarding an eventual agreement on the constituent process.
Through a statement, the presidents of RN, Francisco Chahuán; from the UDI, Javier Macaya, and from Evópoli, Luz PobleteThey indicated that “we consider the declarations of government ministers and officials of the ruling party who seek to precipitate results, putting the talks and agreements underway at risk, to be regrettable.”
The statement was released following the presidents of the Chamber and the Senate announced that political parties will agree that the new Constitution should be drafted by an “elected body”, but supported by a committee of experts.
The Minister Camila Vallejo had referred to this eventual agreement, pointing out that “what is up to us to assess this effort, such as the results it is having, that it be equal, elected, that a committee of experts can participate accompanying the process because it can help significantly and with the participation of the worlds that have been put on the table”.
Faced with these statements, from the opposition bloc they affirmed that “We do not accept that they intend to impose a course of action, much less pettily twist the ongoing talks.”
“We want to be clear: we will continue to work decisively, cautiously and responsibly, without calm, but without haste, to reach the agreements that are needed, which have not yet been finalized. Announcing agreements that have not yet been signed threatens trust and the collaborative spirit, to the point of evaluating the relevance of the paths offered”they add.
Speaking to the press, the president of the National Renewal (RN), Francisco Chahuánaccused a haste by the Executive regarding the constituent process, which in his opinion, seems to correspond to a “spirit of taking a political advantage.”
“We are just beginning the talks and Minister Vallejo considers the agreements concluded”, Chahuan highlighted. “The president of the Chamber of Deputies (Raúl Soto), speaks of a framework agreement”, he added.
“The haste of the government is bad for the process that might lead to a good and new Constitution. And of course this affects trust”, maintained the also senator.
“We have always renewed our commitment to fulfill the word pledged in good faith, but it seems that here there is rather a desire to take a small political advantage when the stability and seriousness of the process are at stake”, added the RN helmsman.
Asked regarding the differences that Chile would have Let’s go with the five points announced by the government, Chahuán emphatically reiterated: “What I want to point out is that we have not yet signed any agreement”.
“We are not going to fall into the same vices that precisely caused a Constitutional Convention that failed (…) There is no agreement because recently each of the parties is proposing what would be an ideal scenario to enter the conversation and fine tune that. And Minister Vallejo speaks of an agreement practically settled and closed (…) There have only been expressions of good intention and willingness to move forward in certain areas.”
Given the insistence of whether RN does not agree with any of the points announced by the government, Chahuán maintained that “These are issues that are part of the conversation, but we have not yet reached any understandingbecause we have pointed out that these processes have to go first through the benches of deputies and senators and second, through the internal organs of the parties”.
For its part, the helmsman of the UDI, Javier MacayaHe stated via Twitter that “having a couple of meetings is not reaching an agreement. A new but good Constitution requires dialogue and we are here for it. We ask the government not to rush or put the talks at risk for a political point.”
