This Saturday the Platino Awards will be held, an award that seeks to recognize the best audiovisual productions in Latin America, where Chile will be present with 15 mentions on the lists of possible winners.
The awards begin with a red carpet by the entertainers Rafa Sarmiento and Jimena Choca, who will seek to show different details of the awards. Likewise, the couple of presenters -who are married in real life- gave details of their preparation, revealed their ties with Chile and commented on the local industry.
Sarmiento says that they work for more than a month to keep up with the names, biographies and filmographies of the potential interviewees who walk the red carpet. Regarding the data collection, he explains that they have the support of a great production team and adds: “We start seeing the movies and series as soon as the nominees are announced.”
In that branch, Choca assures that “two weeks ago I began to see everything Chilean. On the plane was ‘1976’ and I had already downloaded some chapters of ’42 days in the dark’, a masterpiece. And there I saw Aline Kuppenheim, and I said ‘What a woman, what an actress!
The presenter elaborates on the benefits of this preparation: “You realize the quality and talent that we have in Latin America and Ibero-America. I am pleasantly surprised with everything that Chile shows in this tenth edition. I know they are very talented, but many times in international deliveries there are many filters that prevent us from reaching other types of productions”.
Sarmiento adds to this point: “It is a celebration, it is a party, but it is also an industry meeting that can point to the future of our production through co-production.” In addition to highlighting the high quality standards, he adds that “there are very powerful names like 42 days in the dark the first original Chilean Netflix series”.
Likewise, the presenters welcome the national projects. “Despite the fact that there is not such a large market, the narrative quality they have, the quality of stories has been opening these doors for them,” continues Sarmiento.
“I have witnessed this, I had to narrate the first Oscar that Chile won, which was the animated short film story of a bear. and then with a fantastic woman, who later went to the Platino Awards and we had the chance to talk with Daniela Vega. We have seen this growth with this very interesting generation of Chilean creators,” she says.
The presenter has a different bond with the country, but just as significant: she has worked several times at the Viña del Mar Festival. “I love Chile very much because I covered the Viña del Mar International Festival five times. For me it was wonderful to go to Vineyard, Valparaiso and Santiago. I have told Rafa that I met a lot of people there and the food…”. “The empanadas!” Sarmiento responds in turn.
