“Chile is not born with this Convention”: Piñera criticizes the CC in his latest national channel | National

President Sebastián Piñera made the last national broadcast of his second government, where he reviewed the last 4 years and criticized the Constitutional Convention, assuring that he is concerned regarding the proposals regarding justice and the Legislative Power, especially the elimination of the Senate .

President Sebastian Pinera A national network made this Wednesday night, the last of his second administration, which will culminate this Friday, March 11, when he is succeeded by the elected president, Gabriel Boric.

In the speech, Piñera listed the different episodes that marked his second administration, particularly the so-called social outbreak of October 2019 and the covid-19 pandemic, which began in March 2020 in Chile and is still spreading.

In addition, he took the space to criticize some discussions that have taken place in the Constitutional Convention, assuring that “Chile has a history” and that it was not born with the CC.

“I am concerned regarding the excessive refoundational and identity eagerness of broad sectors of the Constitutional Convention. Chile was not born with this Convention, Chile has a history and our Nation is much more than the sum of its parts”assured.

“I am also concerned regarding weakening the Judiciary, weakening equality before the Law, suppressing the Senate of the Republic, which has always played a very fundamental role (…) Nor is it good to restrict people’s freedoms such as freedom of conscience, freedom of religion, freedom of expression or the freedom of parents to form and choose the education of their children. Also, it is not good to weaken the freedom of entrepreneurship or the right to property”, he added.

“Piñera: Implacable obstruction of the opposition”

Along the same lines, the still president defended the work of his government and assured that they found an opposition that obstructed his work on repeated occasions, and that there was unfair criticism of his administration.

“Beyond our errors or shortcomings, which there were, the government’s action met on too many occasions a ruthless obstruction of a part of the opposition and, also, many times, criticism that seemed unfair to us because they did not consider the difficulties of the moment”, he indicated.

“I am concerned regarding the serious and accelerated deterioration in the quality of our politics and the belligerent attitude of some sectors. The mission of the Government and the opposition is not to destroy each other, but to collaborate, from their own principles and visions, for a better future for
everyone,” Piñera added.
