2023 will have more holidays than 2022. In addition, of the 18 that there will be, 9 will be long weekends, and of those 3 are essential.
2023 will be more generous with the holidays in Chile than 2022. The coming year will have 18 holidays, of which only 4 are on Saturday or Sunday, and the remaining 12 on business days.
Of those 12, a total of 9 give rise to a “long weekend” as they fall on a Friday or Monday, and one more might be added if we consider a Tuesday that for many might mean a “sandwich” Monday.
The four holidays that fall on a weekend
As we announced at the beginning of this note, there are four holidays that fall on one of the days of the weekend. The first of them is precisely on January 1, which is Sunday.
Then there is April 8, which is Holy Saturday, but that has always been the case.
The third “non-working” holiday is May 21, which is a Sunday; while Sunday July 16 is the Day of the Virgen del Carmen.
2023 will have nine long weekends
Unlike 2022, where there were only seven long weekends, in 2023 there will be nine.
The first of them will be the additional holiday of the monday january 2. The next one will be at Easter, whose Good Friday is April 7.
Then we will have Labor Day, which is the monday may 1.
The following month, there is the festival of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, which is the Monday June 26.
After that, we will wait until September, but it will be worth it, because it will be the extra long weekend of National Holidays. September 18 and 19 will fall on a Monday and Tuesdayrespectively.
After that, he monday october 9 the Encounter of Two Worlds is coming, and on the 27th of the same month the Day of the Evangelical and Protestant Churchess.
Meanwhile, the friday december 8 will be the day of the Immaculate Conception and Christmas will give rise to the last long weekend of the year at the fall of a Monday.
And if you want to add another extended “weekend”, the celebration of the Assumption of the Virgin, it is the tuesday august 15with the potential to take off on Monday the 14th.
Inalienable holidays in Chile
As every year, the four inalienable holidays will be: January 1 (Sunday in 2023), May 1 (Monday in 2023), September 18 and 19 (Monday and Tuesday in 2023), and December 25 (Monday in 2023).
Of the four, three lead to long weekends.
specific holidays
In addition, as every year, there will be specific holidays, that is, those that apply only to a group of people or region. In 2023 there are three:
On Wednesday, June 7, the Assault and Taking of Morro de Arica is commemorated only in the Region of Arica and Parinacota.
Likewise, on Sunday, August 20, the Birth of Bernardo O’Higgins is celebrated in the communes of Chillán and Chillán Viejo in the Ñuble Region.
And, on the other hand, Sunday, December 31, is the Banking Holiday, exclusive to the workers of Banking Institutions.
