In the midst of statements that generated concern in the region, the Minister of the Interior of Chile, Carolina Tohá, flatly ruled out the existence of threats of Hezbollah attacks in Chilean territory.
These statements arise following comments made by the Minister of Security of Argentina, Patricia Bullrich, who pointed out the alleged active presence of this group in the area.
In an interview with Todo Noticias (TN), Bullrich expressed his concern regarding the presence of Hezbollah on the triple border between Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina, as well as its alleged activity in Chilean cities such as Iquique and recently in Peru. The Argentine minister also highlighted the arrest of two individuals related to Hezbollah in São Paulo last year and linked the group to the AMIA attack in 1994.
However, Chilean Minister Tohá responded to these statements by emphasizing that Chile is part of the international police community and maintains connections with intelligence organizations in the region.
Tohá stressed that any concern or background related to security must be addressed through intelligence and police collaboration channels, and not through public statements.
“I want to say, so that the population has peace of mind, that our police and intelligence systems are always alert in this matter. They are always observing any movement, any history. And at this moment Chile has no threats of Hezbollah attacks,” Tohá stated during an official activity in the Antofagasta Region.
The Chilean minister also assured that any movement of people with links to groups such as Hezbollah is monitored, as well as any suspicious activity in Chilean territory.
