Four children missing following a plane crash over the Colombian rainforest more than two weeks ago have been found alive. “After a tedious search by our armed forces, we found the four children alive on Wednesday,” Colombian President Gustavo Petro said on Twitter. The children are eleven months and four, nine and 13 years old. Her mother and two other adults died in the plane crash.
The Cessna 206 had already disappeared from radar on May 1 while flying over the Amazon rainforest. At the time, she was near San José del Guaviare, one of the largest cities in the Colombian Amazon. Since the rainforest in the area is very dense and difficult to access, the missing machine was first searched for from the air.
But only on Monday did the rescue workers reach the crash site on the ground, as the head of local civil protection, German Camargo, said. Rescue teams found bitten fruit from the jungle at the crash site, which is why they hoped for survivors.
