The Castillo Cuevas brothers asked the presiding minister of the Court, Arturo Zaldívar, to speak out for releasing their mother, Alejandra Cuevas, who, they point out, is a victim of the abuse of power by the Attorney General of the Republic, Alejandro Gertz Manero.
The demonstration took place during the minister’s participation in a law forum at the Universidad Iberoamericana.
In the round of questions and answers, Alonso Castillo Cuevas took the floor to affirm that the case is a legal ‘atrocity’ carried out by the prosecutor Gertz Manero, whom he accuses of using the justice apparatus at will to obtain arrest warrants once morest his mother and grandmother, charged with murdering Federico Gertz, for not giving him adequate medical care.
Alejandra Cuevas’ son said that the prosecutor Gertz Manero used his position as prosecutor to request the intervention of the Court in this case, where there is not an institutional but a personal interest.
At that moment, Ana Paula Castillo He took the floor and directly accused the minister of blocking justice by attracting the case, because with this, he said, he avoided obtaining the protection to free his mother.
During his claim he knelt in front of the minister president to ask for his help in this case.

The decision made will be the correct one: Zaldívar
In his intervention, the minister said that the case was attracted by the majority of the ministers of the Court and that now it is not possible to pronounce on a matter that is under debate.
He argued that the matter will be resolved without any pressure nor consideration other than respect for human rights. He said that the matter is in the highest court precisely to avoid accusations of partiality.
“I am sure that the decision taken will be the correct one, it is all I can say.”
On his Twitter account, Zaldívar wrote: “I reiterate my absolute respect for the freedom of expression of all people. We public servants have the obligation to accept criticism and listen to the public with respect and sensitivity. The only commitment of the SCJN is with the Constitution and human rights”.
