Footage shows the Florida incident
What these children have done is hard to believe. Nicole, 14, and Travis, 12, shot cops with a shotgun and an AK-47 following a burglary. Recordings show the blatant incident from Florida. The girl was shot twice.
girl got hurt
The skirmish lasted 30 minutes, according to the Volusia County Sheriff. The orphans apparently escaped from the Florida United Methodist Children’s Home and broke into a house. There they are said to have found weapons belonging to the homeowners. When asked by police to leave the property, Nicole and Travis reportedly opened fire. The girl was injured.
Homeowners warned police regarding guns
The Volusia Sheriff’s Office writes on its website that those responsible for the orphanage reported the children as missing shortly beforehand. The caregivers were concerned because Travis was diabetic but didn’t have any medication with him. When the police searched the area for the runaways, they received a tip from a witness: the children had gotten into a house.
Police contacted the homeowner, who told them no one should be home and that there were a handgun, shotgun and AK-47 in the home, along with a large amount of ammunition. Shortly therefollowing, there was a shootout.
Children face charges of attempted murder
Nicole and Travis mightn’t be stopped until the girl was shot. As a result, the 12-year-old is said to have laid down his weapon. The 14-year-old was taken to Central Florida Regional Hospital with life-threatening injuries. She is now in a stable condition.
Sheriff Mike Chitwood told reporters that the armed assault on police by two children was “something I’ve never seen in 35 years in the police force.” And further: “The colleagues did everything to de-escalate tonight and they almost lost their lives to a 12-year-old and a 14-year-old.”
The children are facing charges of armed burglary and first-degree attempted murder by law enforcement officials, according to News6. (dky)
