To preempt potential absences due to illness among childcare providers, considering the escalating SARS-CoV-2 infection rates, the government has increased the maximum child capacity for each professional, effective January 1st. This aims to ease the childcare burden for some parents.
Starting Monday, home-based childcare providers can supervise up to six children concurrently, and eight children, including those under 11 residing in their homes, according to a decree published in the Official Journal on Saturday. See the decree here.
The social action and family code typically limits the number of children a provider can care for to four, with a maximum of six including the provider’s own children. In emergencies, especially when a provider is temporarily unavailable, regulations allow for an increase of one child, depending on existing capacity; if existing capacity is under four, the total children under care cannot exceed this limit.
Mandatory Parental Notification
Providers working from home or in a childcare facility are permitted to care for up to six children simultaneously, provided safety standards are met. When operating from home, the total number of minors under their sole care cannot exceed eight, with a maximum of four under three years old, according to the government decree.
