Child welfare must come above all else

Regarding the article “Abuse of children in care is almost never considered a crime” (SN, October 23, 2023): The very fact of being transported to a children’s home is a crime once morest the child, because the child is deprived of the love of its parents and possible substitute parents . In the children’s home, love is officially forbidden because bureaucrats and dependent workers such as educators keep the children at a distance. The homes, which often operate under church sponsorship, preach charity, but the most important thing to them is love for God. A child cannot yet do anything with love for God and is absolutely dependent on parental love. It is a child’s natural development process to decide for themselves when to say goodbye to their parents. A child in care cannot decide this, so their child’s autonomy and dignity as a child are taken away. Even surrogate parents can leave a child entrusted to their care independent and give unconditional love. Children’s homes are merely detention centers, also referred to as children’s prisons by those affected. There should be compensation for this too. The separation of parents and the withholding of substitute parents lead to experiences of loss that can only be overcome through grief work. The necessary help is missing or even remains unknown in the professional world. After all, children in care are only a minority. Here, experts can prove themselves once morest their better judgment in fulfilling their bureaucratic duties. A right to love, a right to mourn, a right to a family/surrogate family are not of interest. The denial of such rights constitutes violations of children’s rights and therefore human rights violations. Such injuries are always the primary cause of mental illness.”
