A ten-year-old girl spent more than £2.500 (regarding R$15,400) on the mother’s credit card on the platform Roblox. According to the woman, the child would have managed to change the iPad password without the person in charge noticing.
Diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorder, the daughter of Georgina Munday spent time away from school, spending most of that time using the tablet. After suspecting an invasion of her account, the woman discovered that the little girl had managed to change the authentication password for purchases, authorizing payments.
For a week, Georgina, who works as a nurse, struggled to get a refund from Apple and her bank. Initially, both refused his request. Everything changed when the program “You and Yours” (and BBC Radio 4) intervened in the case.
After the huge backlash, the bank reviewed the matter and agreed to refund the full amount. The news was, according to the nurse, a tremendous relief, as she described the experience she had as “horrible” and expressed her gratitude for the resolution.
The financial institution acknowledged the initial mishandling of the case and apologized to the woman. In addition to reversing the amount spent by the child, the bank also made a payment as a way of “compensating” for the inconvenience caused.
