DEPUTY Chairman of Commission III DPR RI Ahmad Sahroni asked that perpetrators of child sexual predators be charged with multiple sentences, following the rise in kidnapping cases and alleged acts of sexual abuse against children in the South Tangerang (Tangsel) area in recent times.
“I ask the police to ensure that the perpetrators are charged with multiple articles: kidnapping, abuse and sexual harassment. Basically, perpetrators of child predators like this must be dealt with as harshly as possible, there must be no leniency whatsoever,” said Sahroni in a statement received in Jakarta , Monday (30/9).
This action, he said, needed to be taken to set a precedent in taking action against similar crimes in the future. “The police must also ensure that the victim receives maximum physical and mental recovery,” he said.
Furthermore, he admitted that he was worried if similar incidents happened to more children in Indonesia. For this reason, he believes that one of the steps that can be taken is increasing supervision by parents.
“As a parent, of course I and many other parents will be worried when we hear about incidents like this. Although we can certainly rely on the police, it would be better as parents if we supervise our children more closely,” he said.
He said parents need to inform and understand their children about the modes of crime that are currently prevalent so that children can be more sensitive and alert when they see indications of these crimes.
He also hopes that the police can continue to be responsive in investigating similar crime cases.
Previously, there were widespread cases of kidnapping and alleged immoral acts affecting three children in the South Tangerang area. The first case occurred on August 5 2024, which happened to a student who was in class 2 at a state elementary school in the Pamulang area.
A similar case occurred again on August 21 2024, with the victim being a grade 3 student at a state elementary school in the Ciputat area. And most recently, on Sunday (8/9), another kidnapping case happened to an 11 year old child with the initials KFA while the victim was playing in the Jelupang area, North Serpong District. (Ant/J-2)
