Yes, the Suwon District Court Anyang Branch issued an arrest warrant for Kim Geun-sik, a child sex offender at around 6 pm today, two hours ago.
In 2006, the court ruled that Kim Geun-sik’s sexual offense once morest a minor under the age of 13 at the time was clarified, and there was a risk of escaping and destroying evidence.
The substantive examination of the arrest warrant for Kim Geun-sik was held at the court from 3 pm today.
30 minutes earlier, a escort vehicle of the Ministry of Justice, carrying Kim Geun-sik from Anyang Prison, appeared at the prosecutor’s office, but Kim’s appearance was not revealed.
It is known that Kim Geun-sik moved to the court through the underground passage connecting the prosecutor’s office and the courthouse.
In the process of transferring Kim Geun-sik, the police deployed regarding 200 police forces around the courthouse to prepare for any contingency.
Kim Geun-sik, who was arrested once more with one day left following serving 15 years in prison, was charged with forcible molestation of a child under the age of 13 in 2006.
The investigation began when an adult victim reported a sexual offense once morest Kim Geun-sik in December of last year.
Although it was a long time ago, the investigation authorities explain that there is no problem with the statute of limitations as it is a sex crime once morest a minor.
After regarding 7 months of investigation, the police handed the case over to the prosecution in July of last year, and the prosecution requested an arrest warrant yesterday, 1 year and 3 months later.
Regarding the recent request for a warrant, an official from the prosecution explained, “It was a long time ago, so it took time to collect and analyze evidence.”
As the arrest warrant was issued today, the plan of Kim Geun-sik, who was released tomorrow morning and stayed at the rehabilitation facility of the Ministry of Justice in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi-do, became unplanned.
Uijeongbu city authorities, who protested that if Kim Geun-sik enters Uijeongbu, even nearby roads will be closed, said they were pleased with the measure that prevented the release of sex offenders and were relieved.
Kim Geun-sik will stay at Anyang Prison in the future and will be subject to further investigation by the prosecution.
