(CNN) In San Diego, California, which borders Mexico, there was an incident in which a 4-year-old boy was dropped to the ground over the border fence and an ambulance crew who rushed to help was shot. This was announced by the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

According to CBP, the incident occurred near the San Isidro border crossing at around 9 p.m. local time on Thursday. Surveillance camera footage captured the moment an illegal immigrant dropped a child over a fence.

When the members rushed to help the injured child, they were shot by someone.

Children, paramedics and San Diego firefighters at the scene were all instructed to take cover, and a CBP helicopter was dispatched to cover them.

The child was not seriously injured.

Investigations are ongoing in both the United States and Mexico to track down suspects.

About a week following the boy was dropped over the border fence, a senior CBP Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol officer wrote in Spanish on CBP’s official Instagram account, “At the airport this morning there was a deportation of families, not just adults. It’s been done,” he posted. “This is what happens to people who enter the country illegally,” he wrote, emphasizing that 90% of illegal immigrants to the United States are deported.

CBP has also posted videos of adults and families with children being deported, urging them to enter the United States legally.
