Child benefit: Who will benefit from the emergency aid, when it is paid – Examples

In the package of targeted interventions for strengthening vulnerable households before Christmas are also included 800,000 beneficiaries of child benefit, who will receive an additional one and a half monthly allowance installment.

For example a couple with two children with low incomes who normally received 140 euros, will receive, for the month of December, a total of 350 euros (an increase of 150%).

The total cost of this emergency aid amounts to 125 million euros.

The extraordinary installment will be paid on December 22, 2023 to the beneficiaries of the allowance for the fifth two months of the year 2023. The application platform for A21 which will be closed for payments to be made will be available again on 22 December and will remain open until 15 January 2024.

A corresponding extraordinary installment will also be paid to the other new beneficiaries of the 2023 allowance, after their application has been approved.

More winners will be at Christmas single-parent families and those with many children provided of course that they declare a low annual income.

As an example, the total amount (initial amount plus an additional one and a half installment) that a family with three children will receive in December ranges from 280 to 700 euros depending on income. The amount of the aid amounts to 105 or 63 or 42 euros for each child for the first and second child, depending on the amount of income and to 210 or 126 or 84 from the third and for each subsequent child.

Examples

Family with 2 parents and 1 child, with an annual income of €26,000: The family equivalence scale is : 1 + 1/2 +1/4 = 1.75. Therefore, the equivalent income is: €26,000 / 1.75 = €14,857. So the family belongs to the C income scale that receives a 28€ allowance per month will receive 70€ in December.

Family with 2 parents and 2 children, with an annual income of €28,000: The equivalence scale of the family is: 1 + 1/2 +1/4 + 1/4 = 2. Therefore, the equivalent income is: €28,000 / 2= €14,000. So the family belongs to the C income scale that receives a 56€ allowance per month will receive 140 euros in December

Family with 2 parents and 2 children, with an annual income of €18,800: The equivalence scale of the family is: 1 + 1/2 +1/4 + 1/4 = 2. Therefore, the equivalent income is: €18,800 / 2= €9,400. So the family belongs to the B income scale that receives €84 per month benefit will receive €210 in December.

Family with 2 parents and 3 children with an annual income of €13,000: The family equivalence scale is : 1 + 1/2 +1/4 + 1/4 +1/4 = 2.25. Therefore, the equivalent income is: €13,000 / 2.25 = €5,777. So the family belongs to the A income scale that receives €280 per month will receive €700 in December.

Family with 2 parents and 2 children with an annual income of €12,000: The equivalence scale of the family is: 1 + 1/2 +1/4 + 1/4 = 2. Therefore the equivalent income is: €12,000 / 2= €6,000. So the family belongs to the A income scale that receives €140 per month will receive €360 in December.

Family with 2 parents and 4 children with an annual income of €14,500: The equivalence scale of the family is : 1 + 1/2 +1/4 + 1/4 + 1/4 + 1/4 = 2.5. Therefore, the equivalent income is: €14,500 / 2.5 = €5,800. The family belongs to the A income scale that receives €420 per month will receive €1,050 in December.

Single-parent families with 3 children and an annual income of €12,000: The equivalence scale of the family is: 1 + 1/2 +1/4 + 1/4 = 2. Therefore the equivalent income is: €12,000 / 2= €6,000. So the family belongs to the A income scale that receives €280 per month will receive €700 in December.

Single-parent families with 1 child and an annual income of €9,000: The family equivalence scale is : 1 + 1/2 = 1.5. Therefore, the equivalent income is: €9,000 / 1.5 = €6,000. So the family belongs to the A income scale that receives €70 per month will receive €175 in December.

The granting of the extraordinary installment is considered to be the subject of the applications, on which the approval decisions granting the allowance to the beneficiaries were issued and is paid once for each dependent child. If, after the payment of the extraordinary installment, the category of equivalent family income of the beneficiaries for the year 2023 is changed if it occurs:

a) unpaid, in whole or in part, payment of the allowance, the extraordinary installment paid is returned accordingly, and

b) that they are retroactively entitled to a larger amount of allowance, the extraordinary installment paid increases accordingly and the remaining amount thereof is attributed to the beneficiaries together with the payment of the above retrospectively due amount of the allowance.
