This case in which a three-year-old child, for having relieved himself in bed, was beaten by his aunt to the point of fracturing his two (2) arms, hit the headlines a few weeks ago and here we are already at Dakar court to attend its epilogue. Mariama Diallo, the author of the fracture of both arms of the 3-year-old baby, was tried this Wednesday, January 17 at the Dakar court.
Since December 25, she has been in detention for mistreatment of a 3-year-old child, intentional assault and battery resulting in 60 days of Temporary Total Incapacity. Due to the serious accusations once morest her, Mariama Diallo narrowly escaped with a six-month suspended sentence, reveals the newspaper L’observer.
Indeed, in this child abuse case, the three-year-old baby was left hanging around with both broken arms for weeks without treatment. According to witnesses, one of the arms was broken on December 24. Analysis results reveal that “the first fracture in the girl’s arm dates back more than a month. The three-year-old girl dragged on with the injuries for weeks without treatment,” reports the Obs.
If Mariama Diallo narrowly escaped with a six-month suspended sentence, it was perhaps the judge’s clemency which was manifested, because the defendant is three months pregnant, or else it is the testimonies of her husband and her neighbor who tipped the scales in her favor. Called by the judge to inquire regarding the mental state of the defendant, the husband asserts “that she is subject to intermittent psychiatric disorders. And in times of crisis, she is violent.” The neighbor, for her part, will say that Mariama Diallo sometimes has “mood swings”, she passes people without greeting them and she even cries alone for no reason…
