Chika Olivia Talks About Her First Album

MUSICIAN Chika Olivia shares her experiences in making her first solo album, Safe Place, and her musical activities as a member of Littlefingers and a session keyboardist for bands and solo singer.

“If I start officially (becoming a solo musician) in 2022. There, I will release the song Out, which is part of the Safe Place album and I will produce it myself,” said Olivia, quoted on Sunday (18/8)

In 2018, Chika began writing and producing a number of songs that were uploaded to music streaming platforms.

Four years later, in 2022, Chika established herself as a soloist through the mini album Safe Place.

Safe Place contains four songs written and sung by Chika, starting from the songs In The Land, Love Has Broken My Heart, Safe Place, and Out.

Interestingly, the songs were inspired by Chika’s personal story.

“Yes, it’s from my own personal story, and I worked intensively on it for about six months,” said Chika.

He added, “In terms of genre, it’s actually just what I like, the way it’s written and the way it sounds, but because when I was learning to play jazz, it’s natural to play jazz.”

Since 2020 until now, Chika is still listed as a member of the band Littlefingers with two of her colleagues, namely Tjdika and David Halim.

Now, he is also busy with his solo career which he feels has a number of differences compared to when he was with his band.

“When writing in Littlefingers, there are always three of us, and we have to sing instrumental songs as much as possible,” said Chika.

“For Chika Olivia’s solo, the story is from me and more on her account,” he continued.

Despite being busy with her solo projects, Chika still manages to balance her band activities. In addition, Chika occasionally performs as a session keyboardist for bands and solo singers, one of which is Hindia.

“Now the concept just flows,” he said.

So far, Chika has not planned to release a new album or single. Therefore, she is still actively concocting musical works that will be released if there is an opportunity.
