Chihuahua’s Winter Incoming: Brace Yourselves!
Alright, folks, gather ‘round! This isn’t just any ordinary weather report; we’re diving into the icy depths of winter predictions straight from the man, the myth, the meteorologist—Florencio Rodríguez Loera! That’s right! We’re forecasting two to three winter storms coming to chill your bones right here in the state of Chihuahua. So, fetch your hot cocoa and thermal socks—let’s face winter armed with the knowledge of what’s brewing in the sky!
Winter is Coming! (No, Seriously)
According to our good friend Rodríguez Loera, get ready for temperatures to drop lower than your enthusiasm for Monday mornings—think below zero degrees Celsius! Yeap, that’s right! It’s time to trade in your shorts for thermal leggings and remember that ‘layering’ isn’t just for cakes.
Cold Mornings and Mild Afternoons
Now, don’t despair completely! In the beautiful chaos of a Chihuahua winter, we’ll have slightly chilly mornings featuring temperatures that hover between 6 to 9 degrees Celsius. And for all you sun worshippers out there, the afternoons will gift us a mild respite with highs of 24 to 28 degrees. So, while you might be shoveling snow in the morning, you could very well be grilling outside in the afternoon—only in Chihuahua, I tell ya!
The Drizzle Dilemma
Of course, it wouldn’t be winter without a little drizzle truly playing hard to get. Rodríguez Loera laments the lack of rainfall in the last week of November, but, hey, isn’t that the weather’s equivalent of keeping you on your toes? Expect a bit of drizzle after December 5—if the weather gods decide to show mercy!
Freeze Frame: The Joys of December
Now, December is where it gets particularly frosty! During the latter half of the month, we could see temperatures plummeting to about -3 to -4 degrees Celsius. So, if you see your breath in the air, don’t panic; it’s just winter reminding you who’s boss! And remember those pesky agricultural pests? They need a bit of a chill too! Who knew cold weather was a bug’s worst nightmare?
Weather Patterns: A Mystic Mystery
Rounding out this meteorological masterpiece, it’s vital to understand that October and November have been drier than a bad dad joke—and that’s dry! The North Republic is praying to the clouds for a change come next year, proving yet again that meteorology is part science, part fortune telling. You know, like reading tea leaves, but with way less caffeine and definitely more thermometers!

According to the latest forecasts, two to three winter storms are anticipated for the month of December in the state of Chihuahua, which are expected to bring frigid temperatures plummeting below zero degrees Celsius, along with the potential for light drizzle impacting municipalities in the south-central region.
The predictions were outlined by Florencio Rodríguez Loera, a former director of the Durango Meteorological Observatory, who highlighted that the minimum temperatures recorded throughout the past week have been exceptionally cold.
Rodríguez Loera indicated that the first winter storm will likely make its presence felt during the initial days of December, emphasizing that prior to this event, the region can expect slightly cold mornings with temperatures ranging from 6 to 9 degrees Celsius, which is typical for this time of year, while afternoons will bring a touch of warmth with maximum temperatures between 24 and 28 degrees Celsius.
He expressed disappointment that there has been a lack of significant rainfall during the final week of November, although he noted that some drizzle may be possible following December 5, consistent with seasonal patterns observed in the fall-winter transition.
In December, meteorological experts predict the onset of severe cold phenomena, which, while severe, are also a common feature as the year draws to a close, as mentioned by the Meoquense meteorologist, confirming the expectation of a second winter storm early next month.
After the onset of December, he confirmed that the prediction indicates two to three winter storms for the state of Chihuahua, speculating that one of these weather systems may originate directly from the north, specifically from Colorado and New Mexico, thus ushering in dangerously low temperatures below zero degrees Celsius.
He specified that particularly in the latter half of December, temperatures could plunge to -3 to -4 degrees Celsius in the south-central area of Chihuahua, a trend necessary for accumulating cold hours to mitigate agricultural pest outbreaks.
Engineer Rodríguez Loera noted that the first winter storm that impacted the region with strong winds and low temperatures since the previous Sunday resulted in over forty hours of cold accumulations, marking critical temperatures below 7 degrees Celsius.
He further mentioned that during October and throughout November, persistently dry conditions have prevailed, not only in the state of Chihuahua but across the northern regions of the country, suggesting a potential shift in the climatic trends as we move into the new year.
