The former ruling party PTI and Hamid Khan were demanding that Justice Mansoor Ali Shah be made the Chief Justice on the basis of seniority as per the existing procedure.

Reaction to the nomination of the Chief Justice
Tehreek-e-Insaf senator and lawyer leader Hamid Khan said in a press conference in Lahore that October 20 and 21 are the darkest days in the history of Pakistan.

He said that the way the constitution was attacked is condemnable. It is also inappropriate to call the present parliament a parliament. Just as voting was done to amend the constitution, everything is in front of the people.
He expressed regret that ‘sick MPs were forcibly brought to the House. An attempt was made to meet the judiciary.
Hamid Khan claimed that lawyers across Pakistan reject the 26th constitutional amendment. ‘It is not the job of the Parliament to appoint the Chief Justice.’
He further said that on the retirement of Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa, ‘Salvation Day’ will be celebrated in the country on October 25.
According to Hamid Khan: ‘Even those who take credit for the 18th Amendment are crying today. The entire judiciary is taking revenge for the expulsion of Yusuf Raza Gilani and Nawaz Sharif.
Referring to the new Chief Justice, Hamid Khan said that Justice Yahya Afridi is a good judge and we want to tell him to save his honor and name. You accept this position on your own time. One year or three years does not matter.
The purpose of appointing the third judge is to divide the judiciary. If you take office, lawyers will not accept you as Chief Justice. Constitutional Benches cannot be formed in High Courts. This is an attempt to usurp the basic constitutional rights of the people.
The lawyer leader further said that ‘We have formed a joint action committee consisting of representatives of the four provinces and bar councils of Islamabad. We will continue our struggle. This movement has started from today and there will be a peaceful protest on one day every week.’

Lawyers leader Ali Ahmed Kurd in a conversation with Independent Urdu rejected the procedure of nomination of new Chief Justice and announced his support of Hamid Khan group against the 26th constitutional amendment.
He said that ‘Chief Justice should be appointed on the basis of seniority, according to which Justice Mansoor Ali Shah should be appointed to the post.’
According to Ali Ahmed Kurd: ‘The government has violated the constitution by appointing three judges of will through the controversial constitutional amendment. With this initiative, an attempt has been made to subordinate the independence and justice of the judiciary to the ruling time. We will launch a movement against it and restore the constitution in its original form.’
Welcome to the new Chief Justice
Supreme Court Bar Association, Lahore High Court Bar, Sindh High Court Bar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar and Sindh High Court Bar have welcomed the appointment of Justice Yahya Afridi as Chief Justice.
Supreme Court Bar Association President Shehzad Shaukat said in a conversation with Independent Urdu that ‘Justice Yahya Afridi is one of the best judges, this appointment was made according to the prevailing constitutional procedure. Some of our lawyer friends want to keep the nation in suspense. Why try to make everything controversial? The constitutional amendment was done, it could have been improved.
He further said that the government asked for suggestions from all the bars before the constitutional amendment. Our objections are acknowledged, but there is always room for improvement. We must recognize that legislation is the constitutional authority of the Parliament, but while accepting this authority, we must try to improve it through our legitimate proposals.’
In a statement, Sindh High Court Bar Association Karachi also described the appointment of Justice Yahya Afridi as extremely beneficial for the judiciary and the country.
In a statement issued by the Lahore Bar Association, it was said that the special parliamentary committee has nominated Justice Yahya Afridi as the Chief Justice of Pakistan by using the constitutional authority with a two-thirds majority.
