Indonesian badminton men’s SINGLES Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo said he won in his first meeting once morest Kodai Naraoka with a score of 14-21, 22-20 and 21-17 in the round of 32 of the French Open, at the Porte de la Chapelle Arena, Paris, France, Wednesday (6/3), was due to his patient playing with the Japanese representative.

Chico said that his playing strategy was because the Japanese opponent was not a random opponent, considering that he was ranked sixth in men’s singles in the world.

“I’m very grateful that I was able to win today’s match. Earlier I tried to play his game more patiently, competing physically and with strength because I know he’s a tenacious player and not easily turned off,” said Chico following the match, quoted from PBSI’s official statement, Wednesday ( 6/3).

Chico said he really used the first game when he lost 14-21 to study Naraoka’s game.

The strategy he implemented was successful because in the second game, he began to find his rhythm to deal with Naraoka with a tight game which ended with him winning 22-20.

Entering the third game, with the rhythm of the game he had found, he said his stamina was still excellent, so it was easier to win the game 21-17 to advance to the last 16 and take a 1-0 head to head lead over his first meeting with Naraoka.

“In the first game, I was still analyzing the game and adapting to the field. This was my first match and also my first meeting with him. In the second game, the rhythm was pretty good. When setting I tried to be calmer and take the initiative to attack as quickly as possible,” said 25 year old badminton player.

“In the third game, I felt that with the long match I had excess stamina so I might play patterns consistently and maintain focus,” he continued.

Chico became Indonesia’s men’s singles representative in the last 16 of the French Open with Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, following another Indonesian representative, Jonatan Christie, fell in the last 32.

In the round of 16, the men’s singles ranked 32nd in the world will face the winner of the match between Chinese representative Zhao Jun Peng and Chinese Taipei representative Su Li Yang.

“Quite satisfied with the performance but now we have to turn our attention to the next match,” he concluded. (Ant/Z-1)
