Recently, Kaliningrad supermarkets have started selling semi-finished products under the Iz Mak brand. The assortment includes chicken products: cutlets, nuggets and wings. Klops prepared some of the new products and compared them with restaurant options.
Nuggets
There were 28 nuggets in the package, quantity may vary slightly as item is sold by weight. The label contains recommendations for cooking in different ways. We chose deep fat – fried in boiling vegetable oil for a couple of minutes. The taste of nuggets is not inferior to other brands, but it is also difficult to call them the same as in Mac. Restaurant chicken was in something more like a batter, and the store version uses regular breadcrumbs.
So, buying nuggets “from a Mac” is a good option for those who want to save money, but those who miss McDonald’s may be disappointed.
Price:
- Nuggets “From Poppy” with a discount of 299 rubles / kg, without a discount – 369 rubles / kg (in a pack of 30-35 pieces);
- Nuggets from other manufacturers without a discount – regarding 500 rubles / kg;
- Nuggets “From Poppy” without a discount (per piece) – 8-9 rubles;
- Nuggets at McDonald’s – 10-12 rubles / piece.
Wings
The semi-finished product can be called unique: other manufacturers do not sell this part of the chicken already breaded – you can buy wings either in the marinade or just raw.
In total, there were 11 upper halves of the wing in the pack. Deep frying is recommended. To do this, the meat must be left in boiling oil for regarding 8 minutes, but it is better to reduce the time for the next batches, otherwise the breading starts to burn. Ready-made wings are spicy in taste. Unlike its counterpart from KFC, this semi-finished product is without skin.
This option is perfect as a replacement for wings not only from McDonald’s, but also from KFC.
Prices:
- “Poppy Wings” will cost 299 rubles / kg (10-15 pieces in a pack);
- Whole wings from other manufacturers and separate breading – 250-300 rubles / kg + 200 rubles. for 200 g of breadcrumbs;
- “Wings from Poppy” (per piece) – 20-27 rubles;
- Wings at McDonald’s and KFC cost regarding 40 rubles apiece.
cutlets
Competitors also have this position, however, the cutlets of the Iz Poppy brand differ in their shape – they are not made in the form of an even circle, but rather look like a chicken fillet chop.
There were 10 cutlets in a random pack from the store. In the semi-finished product, already prepared meat is used, it remains only to warm it up. It is also recommended to fry in deep fat, but it will take twice as long as for nuggets. The taste of the product does not differ from the chicken cutlets that were used at McDonald’s. According to a former employee of the restaurant chain, the same blue bags were brought to the establishment.
In supermarkets, the cost of these cutlets is higher than that of a similar semi-finished product from manufacturers.
