Chevrolet Corvette
General Motors revealed its intention to launch a hybrid version (electricity + petrol) of the famous American sports car, “Chevrolet Corvette” next year.
According to Mark Ross, President of General Motors, to CNBC, Monday, the company plans to launch an all-electric version following the hybrid version.
Meanwhile, the US automaker plans to continue selling gasoline-powered Corvettes, according to The Verge.
The electric Corvette is likely to spark controversy, similar to Ford’s launch of an electric Mustang.
The Corvette has long been associated with “amazing power and a loud exhaust,” and the “completely silent” version of the Corvette may upset some old fans, but GM appears confident it can still win over new customers, according to the site.
The Corvette will be the latest electric car in the Chevrolet range, and General Motors announced last year that it would launch electric versions of the Equinox, Blazer and Silverado cars.
It is reported that the company previously announced a $35 billion plan to make all models electric by 2040, and it produces the Bolt electric car, and announced electric models such as “Hummer,” “Sierra,” Lyric and “Celestec.”
A video clip posted by the company on Twitter showed what appeared to be a “hybrid Corvette”, and showed the front wheels spinning, which means that it will be four-wheel drive, while Corvette was previously known to work with rear-wheel drive only, according to “CNN Business”.
