ALGIERS – The new Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Youcef Cherfa, took up his new functions on Wednesday in Algiers, following his appointment by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, at the head of the ministry following consultation of the Prime Minister, Mr. Nadir Larbaoui, in replacement of Mohamed Abdelhafid Henni, dismissed from office.
The handover ceremony took place at the ministry’s headquarters, in the presence of sector executives.
On this occasion, Mr. Henni addressed “his thanks to the President of the Republic for the trust placed in his person for more than two years”, as well as to the workers in the sector for the efforts made, while wishing every success to Mr. Cherfa in his new functions.
For his part, Mr. Cherfa expressed his thanks to the President of the Republic for the renewed confidence in appointing him Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, entrusting him with this department following having been at the head of the Ministry of Transport, stressing that this confidence will be for him “a strong motivation to revive the sector”.
The new minister also thanked Mr. Henni for the efforts made throughout his mission at the head of the sector.
He recalled “the major challenges to face to revive the agricultural sector, being a strategic sector whose mission is to ensure food security which is the basis of progress, development and prosperity, hence the need, “he said, to combine efforts and work to achieve the commitments of the President of the Republic aimed at improving the standard of living of citizens.”
Addressing the sector’s executives, the new minister declared: “I am confident that you will spare no effort to achieve the expected objectives and work to continue the development process, highlighting the vital role of this sector.”
