CHENNAI – After strangling a Malayali nursing student, she took a picture and posted it as a status on WhatsApp, suggesting that the dispute over the photo continued. Ashiq (21) was arrested in Kollam Thenmala Urukunnu Charuvila Putthanveetil Fauzia (20) murder case, Kollam Kulathupuzha Ayyanpilla Valav Ashiq Mansilil.
Ashiq had come to meet Fauzia, a 2nd year nursing student, at Crompett Balaji Hospital in the city. The police said that both of them were staying at the hotel for a few days. It is suggested that after Fauzia saw a photo of Ashiq with another girl, there was a fight between the two. Ashiq then beat up Fauzia and strangled her with a T-shirt.
Friends and police said that Ashiq took a photo of the dead body and put it as a status on WhatsApp. Fawzia’s friends who noticed this came to know about the murder when they reached the hotel. He was caught near the central station during the investigation conducted by the police focusing on Ashiq’s phone number.
Police said they have a child and the child is kept in an orphanage in Chikkamagaluru, Karnataka. Ashiq, who was arrested in a POCSO case after Fawzia got pregnant before reaching puberty, was released from jail recently.
