Tuchel successor found |
Will Chelsea pay €23m for HIM?
Chelsea have a new manager!
According to consistent media reports, Brighton coach Graham Potter (47) will take over from Thomas Tuchel (49), who was fired on Wednesday at the “Blues”. The write “Daily Mail” and “Sun”.
According to this, Potter has already verbally agreed with those responsible on a contract as the new coach of Chelsea FC and is expected to take a seat on the bench once morest Fulham on Saturday.
Football insider Fabrizio Romano also reported via Twitter, confirming the rumors. The Italian journalist: “Graham Potter is appointed as the new Chelsea manager, as expected. The agreement is in place, the contracts are being prepared now that the proposal has been accepted. Chelsea will finalize the deal with Brighton in the next few hours.”
According to “Sky” information, Potter has already left the Brighton training ground. Before that, he spent two hours saying goodbye to his players and staff.
On Wednesday at 10:05 a.m. local time, Chelsea FC announced the separation from Tuchel: “The new owners are convinced that this is the right time for this change.”
He already had sporting success at Paris St-Germain (2-time champion, 1-time cup winner) and BVB (cup winner) and was released anyway. This time, too, there was a crunching between him and the bosses for a long time. Especially with the US billionaire and new club owner Todd Boehly (48).
Potter was considered a top favorite for the successor from the start. The Brit has an exit clause of at least 14 million euros in his contract (“Daily Mail”). According to the “Independent”, the possible transfer fee might be the equivalent of around 18.6 million euros, the “Mirror” even writes around 23 million euros. That would make him the second most expensive coach of all time. Only Julian Nagelsmann (35) cost more, moving from RB Leipzig to Bayern in 2021 for 25 million euros.
The clause means Brighton can’t prevent their manager’s departure!
It’s going to be pretty expensive for Chelsea. So Tuchel still receives a hefty severance payment of 15 million euros. According to “Daily Mail” information, two million of them go to the coaching staff, who also have to go.
The transfer summer was already expensive for the currently sixth-placed player in the Premier League. Overall, Chelsea bought new stars, including Raheem Sterling (€56m from Man City), for €280m. However, the investments might not save Tuchel’s job…
Zinédine Zidane (50/last Real Madrid) and Mauricio Pochettino (50/last PSG) were also in talks as successors. Even Roger Schmidt (55/Benfica Lisbon) showed up. Now the decision seems to have fallen on Potter.
