Cheiron announced the achievement of a new oil discovery in the Jessum-Tawila West concession area in the Gulf of Suez, where operations in the field are managed by the joint venture company PetroGulf Egypt, on behalf of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation by 50% and partners Chiron-Pico and KUFPEC 50%.
The discovery was made through the GNN-11 North Geisum North exploration well. The well encountered 165 feet of net high-quality vertical strata in the pre-Miocene Nubian Formation. This is the first time that the Nubian Crude Oil-bearing Formation has been found in the concession area. The main reservoir produced in the field is located in the Nukhal Formation.
The well was drilled through the recently installed early production facility in the North Jessom North field and the well was successfully put on production at a rate of over 2,500 barrels per day.
As a result of the new well and the successful drilling program conducted so far in the field, the total crude oil production has reached around 23,000 barrels per day, compared to around 4,000 barrels per day prior to the development of the North Jessum field.
The well is the fourth well to be completed through the early production facilities. It is worth noting that 3 more wells can be drilled through the early production facilities and will be used to complete the current phase of the exploration drilling program and the development of the concession area.
In addition, Kyron and KUFPEC plan to drill an additional number of exploration wells in the concession area and expand the development activity of the North Jessum North Field (GNN).
