A win worth gold. The Mexican Sergio ‘Checo’ Perez (Red Bull) won this Saturday the sprint test for the Azerbaijan GP – the fourth of the World Formula One-, held on the urban circuit of Baku, where he relegated to second place the Monegasque Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), who had started from first place.
the dutch Max Verstappen (Red Bull), leader of the championship and who aspires to achieve a third title in a row, finished third the reduced test, to a third of the distance of the race this Sunday -that is to say: 17 laps, for a little over a hundred kilometers-, that the Spanish Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) and Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
The Englishman George Russell (Mercedes) finished the first of the six sprints of the season in fourth position, which no longer influences the grid on Sunday, but continues to award points to the first eight.
‘Checho’ took eight; Leclerc, seven; and ‘Mad Max’ -who now leads the World Cup with 75 points, thirteen more than his Mexican colleague- six; and so on until the eighth, which was the Canadian Lance Stroll, Alonso’s new teammate at Aston Martin, who added one.
Sainz scored four points by finishing fifth, and his compatriot, the double world champion from Asturias, three: those corresponding to the sixth place in the reduced test. Alonso -who signed three podiums in the first three races, bringing his number of ‘drawers’ in F1 to 101- remains third in the championship, but now with 48 units.
The seven-time English world champion Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), who finished seventh -between the two Aston Martins- added two points to his scoreboard.
