A Apple recently announced the Beats Solo Buds, new headphones from its most famous subsidiary. Already consolidating itself as the earbuds the brand’s cheapest wireless headphones, the headphones are a very affordable alternative to others of the same genre, such as Beats Studio Buds and the Beats Studio Buds + — launched in 2021 and 2023, respectively.
But how different are the headphones? What will you lose or gain by opting for one model or the other? That’s what we’ll see in this special comparison between the three models of Beats in-ear headphones!
Appearance
The three headphones are quite similar aesthetically — especially the Beats Studio Buds and the Beats Studio Buds +, as the latter are basically a more powerful and updated version of the former — but they have some small visual differences.
While the Studio line headphones have a case that has a more rounded shape throughout, the Solo line has this curved appearance on the sides and top, but has straight lines on the bottom.
As for the headphones themselves, those from the Studio line are practically identical, with the biggest difference being the design of the flat part (where the Beats logo is located), while the Beats Solo Buds have a more uniform design (including the same texture throughout its entire length).
In terms of colors, the Beats Solo Buds come in four variations (Matte Black, Storm Gray, Arctic Purple e Transparent Red), while the other two come in three colors each: black, white and red (for the Beats Studio Buds) and black/gold, ivory and translucent (for the Beats Studio Buds +).
When we talk regarding size options for the “tips”, the Beats Studio Buds lose out, with three different variants compared to the others, which have four.
Audio quality
As expected, the Beats Solo Buds are the least rich in audio-related features. According to the company, they feature well-balanced tuning with clear reproduction, which is provided by double-layer transducers that minimize microdistortions and laser-cut openings designed to improve bass.
Jumping over to the Beats Studio Buds, they feature a unique layered diaphragm driver, housed in a dual chamber for clear sound and better stereo separation, as well as an advanced digital processor to optimize audio performance for volume and sound clarity. .
The Beats Studio Buds +, in turn, feature powerful and balanced sound, with an innovative acoustic ventilation mechanism to improve audio precision, as well as flexible two-layer transducers to offer cleaner bass sounds and low distortion.
Speaking of immersion, both Beats Studio Buds and Beats Studio Buds + support Spatial Audiotechnology that provides more immersive sound and offers users an immersive sound experience anywhere — something that is not present in the recently announced Beats Solo Buds.
Active Noise Cancellation and Ambient Mode
Some technologies that can make a big difference when purchasing and that certainly influenced the lower price of the Beats Solo Buds are Active Noise Cancellation (or ANC) and Ambient Mode, which are not present in the cheapest headphones, but appear both on Beats Studio Buds and Beats Studio Buds +.
As described by Apple, ANC continuously blocks out unwanted noise during playback. In the case of Beats Studio Buds +, this cancellation is up to 1.6x more powerful than traditional Beats Studio Buds — which is an important point to justify the price difference between them.
In the case of Ambient Mode, which combines users’ auditory experience with the world around them to make them aware of what is happening around them, the improvement in the more expensive model is 2x — an increase that is the result of its microphones, which are 3x larger.
Battery and recharge
A very important point when buying practically any device these days (following all, we live in the wireless era) is battery life and ease of charging. At this point, we can say that Beats headphones are showing significant improvements with each generation.
Starting with the Beats Solo Buds (the most recent), they have an autonomy of up to 18 hours of playback, while the Beats Studio Buds and Beats Studio Buds + are much less powerful in this sense, offering durations of around 8 and 9 hours, respectively.
All three headphones feature fast charging technology Fast Fuelwhich allows you to add an hour of battery time with just five minutes of charging — which should be very useful in cases where the battery runs out while you intend to listen to something important or get on a call.
Controls and application
Like all good in-ear headphones these days, the three models have touch-sensitive controls on the headphones themselves (more especially, where the Beats logo is engraved).
In all three models, it is possible to control music playback, answer calls and activate the voice assistant using this method, but in the Studio line headphones it is also possible to switch between playback modes (normal, Ambient or ANC).
In iOS Settings or in the Beats app for Android, it is possible to customize some control options — including allowing you to manipulate the volume of headphone playback.
Compatibility
Unlike what happens with AirPods, Beats headphones (these three are no different) have improved compatibility with both iOS and Android.
This compatibility promotes a very robust set of features for both platforms, such as one-touch pairing, activation of voice assistants and the standard search function for both systems.
Price and availability
Of the three headphones in our comparison, only the Beats Solo Buds have not yet been officially launched (they are not even in the Brazilian Apple Store Online), so we can only know their standard price in the United States.
Expected to be available in early June by US$80 In the USAthe headphones cost much less than the other two models there — the Beats Studio Buds come out by US$150while the Beats Studio Buds + cost US$170.
