2023-05-18 23:00:00

We have arrived at a new generation of cell phones from the Redmi line, and the Note 12 4G is the new entry-level cell phone from the Xiaomi brand. It has an excellent AMOLED screen and 128GB of storage for you to store all your photos. Here at Oficina da Net we love to test cell phones and find out which models are really worth buying: is the Note 12 a good value for money?

Watch the video review:

cameras

Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 cameras include a sensor principal de 50MP, 8MP ultrawide, 2MP depth e frontal de 13MP. film in FULL HD e 30 FPS. The quality of the photos is typical of Xiaomi’s entry-level cell phones, being better in well-lit and outdoor environments.

I noticed that the main camera applies a slight yellowish filter to most photos. If you’re an iPhone user, you know how it is: photos tend to look warmer and cozier.

In selfies, things get a lot worse. Both in light and dark environments, we had a result well below expectations. In the dark, the photos are very noisy, in the light, the exposure is blown.

In general, the night photos are not good, but this is what we expected: this is the case with practically all entry-level cell phones. If you are going to take pictures with the Redmi Note 12, find a well-lit place

Check out in the gallery below several photos I took with the main and ultra-wide camera of the Redmi Note 12:

The Note 12 can only shoot in Full HD e 30 frameswhich would even be acceptable, if the cell phone’s stabilization wasn’t so bad. This one is definitely not a good phone for recording videos, both on the rear and front camera. If you want to see the footage we did with it, watch our video review on YouTube.

Redmi Note 12 4G screen is good?

Say what you will regarding Xiaomi, but they don’t skimp on screens: We have a panel here AMOLED of 6.67 inches with refresh rate in 120 Hz, 1200 nits maximum brightness and resolution FULL HD+. All this under the protection of Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

I really like screens with high refresh rates: on mobile we’re always scrolling and zapping through apps, so it’s nice to have that extra fluidity that the screen provides. In games, this refresh rate does not make much difference, as the Redmi Note 12 was unable to get frame rates above 60 in any of the games.

Unlike the Samsung models we tested recently, the edges of Xiaomi’s entry-level phones are very thin, giving the impression that it is a more expensive phone than it really is.

It’s always cool to see AMOLED panels on entry-level phones, as this is the same type of screen we find on top of the line phones. The screen is one of the most important points of the cell phone, and here Xiaomi did it very well.

External Construction

A visual difference between the 4G and 5G versions of the Note 12 is the edges: the version we have here, the 4G, has a more squared look. It gives the impression that the phone is thinner too. The Note 12 5G, on the other hand, continues with rounded corners like previous versions of the line.

  • The construction of the device is made entirely of plastic;
  • We have IP53 protectionwhich guarantees a certain resistance to dust and splashing water;
  • The front of the cell phone is just like previous Xiaomi models, we don’t have any changes.
  • Also on the side: the digital reader is still in the corner, next to the on/off and volume button;
  • One negative change the Note 12 has over previous models is that the sound is not stereo. We only have one audio output, which is next to the USB-C connector;
  • he comes with headphone inputsif you are one of those who have not yet migrated to bluetooth headphones.

Hardware and Performance

In hardware, we have a processor Snapdragon 685with four cores of 2.8 GHz and 4 cores 1.9 GHz. In Brazil we have this cell phone in versions with 4 and 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB and 128 GB of storage.

Tests no AnTuTu Benchmark

Despite being relatively new, this processor from Qualcomm is delivering much lower performance than I expected: No AnTuTu benchmarkone of the most complete tests we have available, the Note 12 scored 282,000 points. This score beats the Redmi Note 11, which scored 245 thousand pointsbut is below the Note 11S, which scored 303k.

Teste no CPU Throttling

already on the test CPU Throttling we stress the processor to the maximum for 15 minutes. Here, the most efficient cell phones get a higher score, while others overheat and end up losing performance and scoring less.

The Note 12’s Snapdragon is very new and efficient, managing to keep its clocks up there throughout the test, without overheating, resulting in a great score of 178 thousand points. Here he beat the Note 11 and 11S, standing between famous cell phones like the S21 FE and the Edge 30 Fusion.

Is Redmi Note 12 good for gaming?

Despite being efficient and cold, in games, the Redmi Note 12 really disappointed. It is at the bottom of our Ranking: it’s the worst gaming phone we’ve tested in the entire history of the channel.

He averaged 2 FPS in Fortnite, something we had never seen before. To give you an idea, the Note 11, which is a very bad cell phone for games, got 25 FPS on average in Fortnite.

If you want to see how it fared in other lighter games like FreeFire and PUBG, check it out check it out in our video on the Roda Liso channel.

Battery lasts a whole day?

The battery is standard, 5000mAh capacity. To find out how well the cell phone manages this load, we need to start with the official battery test here at Oficina da Net. With the help of an automatic robotic arm, we place the cell phone in seven different usage scenarios for 7 hours and 45 minutes. The purpose of the test is to simulate a full day of intense use and find out how far the device can go without switching off.

  • Battery: 5000mAh;
  • Charger: 33W;
  • Final result: + 7 hours 45 minutes from the phone. Completed the cycle;
  • Consumption: 88% is the battery;
  • Loading: 1h05 minutes.

The good news is that the Note 12 managed to complete the entire test without any issues. The bad news is that it only has 12% charge left, which puts it at number 19 in our battery ranking. When we tested it last year, the Redmi Note 11 ended that same test with an incredible 29% of battery remaining, taking first place in the ranking at the time. The Note 12’s battery is good and the processor is efficient, but the powerful 120 Hz screen ends up knocking it down in the battery rankings.

The box comes with a 33W charger that can take the Note 12 from zero to 100 charges in approximately one hour, which is a good result. A positive side of these Realme, Xiaomi, Poco cell phones is charging: You put the cell phone there, wait 10, 15 minutes and it already has enough charge to spend several hours using the device. Cool.

Software and Apps:

The Redmi Note 12 comes updated with Android 13 and MIUI 14. For everyday tasks, the cell phone works relatively well. In general, the performance is responsive, but I had problems playing recorded videos and while moving the phone with several applications open. The 4 GB of RAM ends up limiting the performance a lot.

A negative point of MIUI is the number of applications that are already installed with the device. I had to do a general cleaning to be able to install all the Roda Liso games, even though the phone has 128 GB of storage. It’s very annoying to get a new cell phone and it’s already full of nonsense, it’s common in Xiaomi cell phones.

Is it worth buying Redmi Note 12 4G?

The price of the Redmi Note 12 4G here in Brazil is approximately R$1200. At this value, it competes in the category of entry-level cell phones. In addition to being generally worse than the predecessor Redmi Note 11, this model now needs to compete with entry-level 2023 phones, such as the Samsung A14 that we are also currently testing.

Both are extremely basic cell phones, take pictures, film, access social networks and do everything without crashing – the main difference between them is that the Galaxy A14 is 5G, has a much more powerful processor and films with stabilization. But Xiaomi’s AMOLED screen is much better than the A14’s LCD screen.

So if you really want to watch movies and series on your cell phone, you can consider the Note 12. But in terms of performance and cameras, it is difficult to recommend this cell phone.

Before making the decision, I recommend checking out our complete comparison we made of the Redmi Note 12 and Galaxy A14.

In general, I was very disappointed with the Redmi Note 12, at least in the 4G version they are selling here in Brazil. If you want us to test other versions, such as 5G and 12 Pro, comment below.
