The former foreign minister and official candidate for the governorship of the Venezuelan state of Barinas, Jorge Arreaza, He acknowledged this Sunday his defeat in this election, which was repeated following justice annulled the impending victory of the opposition last November.

“The information we receive from our structures of the PSUV [Partido Socialista de Venezuela, en el poder], indicate that, although we increased in voting, we have not achieved the objective, ”Arreaza wrote on Twitter awaiting the official results of the National Electoral Council (CNE).

Hours later, the CNE cleared up any unknown by ratifying the comfortable victory of the opposition Sergio Garrido, with 55.36% of the votes in his favor, compared to the 41.27% obtained by Arreaza, while the rest of the votes were distributed by the minority opponents.

Barinas was governed since 1998 by the family of the late President Hugo Chávez, born in that state.

From the national government, the Minister of Communication, Freddy Ñáñez, replied to what Arreaza said and assured that while waiting for the official CNE bulletin, according to the information presented by the Chavista candidate, “the opposition would win with Barinas four of the 23 governorates from the country”.

In the campaign command of the anti-Chavista bloc, they celebrated an anticipated victory for Garrido from the end of the followingnoon, which intensified following Arreaza recognized the defeat, as the Efe team might verify in the place.

The opponents celebrated with the shout of “yes it was possible” and with the intonation of the national anthem and that of the state of Barinas.

November results ratified

The election ratifies the imminent victory of November 21 achieved by the opposition and which was annulled by the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ), on the pro-government line, alleging that the opposition candidate, Freddy Superlano, he was disabling, preventing him from participating once more.

Neither might his wife, who was to be his substitute, or a third candidate, leaving Garrido, elected to the regional parliament last November, as the fourth option.

“The noble, loyal and brave people of Barinas achieved victory,” celebrated Garrido, who breaks 24 years of Chavista hegemony in this state, which was always ruled by a member of the family of the father of the so-called Bolivarian Revolution.

Garrido asked for patience

Before the first official results were known, Garrido, 54, urged his followers “to have a little patience” and wait for the announcement of the electoral court.

Later, the virtual governor-elect of Barinas celebrated the triumph “of the Barinese people” and of the “democratic force, of the Barinese opposition.”

“I want to begin by thanking, first, these institutions that today demonstrated peace, tranquility, such as the National Armed Forces, who behaved up to the task, institutionally. Also to the CNE, to the Regional Electoral Board that in the same way behaved institutionally ”, expressed Garrido.

While the governor-elect celebrated the victory, the opposition campaign command was filled with followers who came to congratulate him on his triumph, as did dozens of citizens who celebrated from their vehicles with honks of their horns, as Efe found.

A platform with a giant screen that Chavismo had installed to celebrate an eventual victory was left alone, in the shadows, very close to its campaign command.
