The traditional feast of Benichon of Châtel-St-Denis (FR) took place this weekend. Like every year, cuchaule, mustard, broth, double cream and other delights were in the spotlight. In addition to the descent of the herds from the mountain pastures, synonymous with the imminent arrival of winter, there is in particular a fun fair popular with families. This is where a tragedy almost happened on Sunday.

“A carousel basket for children came off and ended up upside down on a girl,” said Albert *, a witness who was there with his wife and their two 2-year-old boys. and 5 years. “My youngest son has always been afraid of aerial work platforms. On Sunday, he finally agreed to ride it. His eyes were filled with wonder. My wife was taking photos to immortalize this magical moment. It was then that a nacelle abruptly unbolted and almost hit her.

The merry-go-round resumed soon after

If Albert’s son was not injured, the little girl hit by the basket had a few scratches. Her dad is torn between relief and indignation: “By a miracle, my 8-year-old daughter just has minor injuries to her hand. But the precautionary principle was not respected because the carousel resumed shortly after”, reacted Xavier. Having been very afraid for his wife and children, Albert considers that the case was handled very lightly. “Children were almost killed and we acted as if nothing had happened. The defective basket was evacuated. The carousel restarted and, unaware of everything that had just happened, parents rushed to the cash register, ”denounced Albert.

Alerted by witnesses, the Friborg police sent a patrol to the scene. “An investigation is open,” said the police.

Attestation of Conformity

The showman believes that Albert “overreacted by trying to stir up everyone while the father of the slightly injured girl remained calm and courteous”. He thinks he had an adequate reaction. “I immediately stopped the merry-go-round. After finding that the girl only had scratches, I removed the faulty carrycot and checked all the others. I have a certificate of conformity renewed every four years. If I was not in good standing, the police would never have let me continue my activities,” pleaded the showman.
