Chase in Villach: 16-year-old raced away at 140 km/h

The teenager drove around a police barrier and accelerated his vehicle to up to 140 km/h. Finally they managed to stop the 16-year-old – he doesn’t have a driver’s license and is currently doing L-17 training, the police said in a release.

Shortly before 4 p.m., a police patrol wanted to stop the 16-year-old’s car. However, the driver sped away through downtown Villach at a far excessive speed. When a street was blocked by a police car, the teenager drove around the barrier, causing the rear of the car to break out. After a few hundred meters he was forced to stop by a police patrol and asked to get out, but he ignored this and sped away once more. A police officer had to move aside to avoid being run over.

Only following further pursuit was the 16-year-old finally stopped. No one was injured during the chase and there was no damage to property. In addition to the driver, there were five of his friends in the car. The 16-year-old is charged with, among other things, endangering physical safety and resisting state authority.
