Charly Musonda Jr. leaves Chelsea after 10 years: ‘I was lucky to be here’

The attacking midfielder, 25, left Anderlecht ten years ago for Chelsea, but was never able to confirm the high expectations placed on him in London. Considered one of the greatest Belgian talents of his generation, Musonda left Anderlecht at the age of 15 for Chelsea. He has in turn been loaned to Betis Sevilla, Celtic and Vitesse. At the latter club, he suffered a serious knee injury that put his career at risk.

He was able to play once more two years later, last September. His contract at Chelsea is now coming to an end. “When I put everything into perspective and look back, following everything I went through at Chelsea, I think I was very lucky to be at the club,” Musonda said in a video posted on Instagram.

“There is no excuse, like my injuries or if I had played more,” he added. “I don’t look at it that way. The only way I see it is that I was lucky to be here, to be part of such a big club,” added Musonda who thanks his teammates, his coaches and all the supporters.
